OPERA DIVA NINO MACHAIDZE WITH A GALA CONCERT IN PLOVDIV
World-renowned soprano Nino Machaidze will present an unforgettable evening to the Bulgarian audience, featuring some of the most famous arias for soprano on September 26 at 7:00 PM on the stage of the Boris Hristov House of Culture in Plovdiv.
The Georgian-born singer is a regular soloist at prestigious opera houses such as La Scala, Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera, and is among the most sought-after sopranos on the world’s operatic stages. Following her appearances at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago and the Summer Festival in Dubrovnik, Machaidze will officially close the OPERA OPEN festival and symbolically open the 2025/2026 artistic season of Plovdiv Opera.
The gala concert, under the baton of maestro Dian Tchobanov and performed with the Plovdiv Opera Orchestra, will include masterpieces by Mozart, Puccini, Catalani, Gounod, Massenet, and Dvořák.
Originally scheduled to take place at the Ancient Theatre this summer, Machaidze's performance was postponed due to a temporary issue with her vocal cords. Now, audiences will have the opportunity to experience her voice live.
Nino Machaidze’s illustrious career has taken her to some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera (New York), Bavarian State Opera (Munich), Berlin State Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), La Monnaie (Brussels), Paris National Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden (London), and Los Angeles Opera.
A graduate of the La Scala Academy in Milan, Machaidze made her debut on the La Scala stage in 2007 as Marie in La fille du régiment, marking the beginning of her international career. Her breakthrough came in the summer of 2008, when she caused a sensation as Juliette in Roméo et Juliette at the Salzburg Festival, performing alongside Rolando Villazón.
Key roles in her repertoire include Giulietta in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Manon in Massenet’s Manon, and Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride.
Her current season includes performances in Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra (Palermo), La Bohème (Monte Carlo and Puccini Festival), Giovanna d’Arco (Parma), Roméo et Juliette (Berlin State Opera), and Faust (Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège).
Among her recent engagements are: The Siege of Corinth (Pesaro), Les pêcheurs de perles (Los Angeles), Guillaume Tell (Palermo), Roméo et Juliette (Karlsruhe), Pagliacci (Geneva, Rome, Salerno), The Barber of Seville (Verona, Amsterdam), The Tales of Hoffmann (Naples), Manon (Paris and Vienna), La Bohème (Tokyo), Viva la Mamma! (Madrid), Armida (Marseille), Luisa Miller (Zurich, Hamburg, Salzburg), Joan of Arc (Rome), The Thieving Magpie (Vienna), La Traviata (Berlin, Naples, Bari, Seville), I Lombardi alla prima crociata (Monte Carlo, Budapest, Munich), Don Carlos (Hamburg), and the special project Revolution in Vienna and Brussels, dedicated to Verdi and Rossini, including Otello by both composers in Frankfurt.
