A New Year's Eve Concert with Grammy nominated singer Stacey Kent and The Orchestra of Opera Plovdiv. Conductor: Ricardo Caseiro.
A little before the end of the year, at the invitation of the State Opera Plovdiv and with the support of Plovdiv Jazz Fest, the world-renowned singer will perform in Bulgaria for the first time.
On December 28th at 8:00 PM at the Boris Christoff City House of Culture in Plovdiv, together with the Plovdiv Opera Orchestra and the musicians accompanying her on her world tour, Stacey Kent will present a special program, including songs from her latest album I Know I Dream: Orchestral Sessions (2017). This album marks her first collaboration with a symphony orchestra. Along with new compositions, the album also features jazz standards, bossa nova, and chansons. It is also a continuation of her long-standing collaboration with her husband – the British saxophonist, producer, composer, and arranger Jim Tomlinson, and the 2017 Nobel laureate for literature Kazuo Ishiguro. It was her work with the famous writer that changed the direction of her career. As early as 2002, he described Stacey Kent as 'a natural minimalist who wins a legion of fans with her "less is more" approach.' Nearly 15 years ago, Stacey Kent and Jim Tomlinson decided to try something outside of the Great American Songbook repertoire, offering Kazuo Ishiguro to collaborate together. This led to their first joint project – Breakfast on the Morning Tram (2007), which was Grammy-nominated and achieved platinum status in sales. In recent years, the creative trio has been working actively together – Tomlinson writes the music, and Ishiguro writes the lyrics for Stacey Kent’s songs. The conductor of the orchestra is Ricardo Caseiro.
Stacey Kent graduated in comparative literature in New York. In 1990, she moved to London, where she studied music and has lived there ever since. In 1997, she released her first album Close Your Eyes. Her musical style is diverse, encompassing jazz, pop, and bossa nova. She sings fluently in English, French, and Portuguese. Introducing a new sound, Stacey Kent has left a distinct and subtle mark on jazz standards.
The singer has been a part of the music scene for over 20 years and has sold more than 2 million albums. She has performed in over 50 countries. She has won numerous awards, including Jazz Vocalist of the Year in 2001 at the BBC Jazz Awards. In 2009, she was awarded France’s highest state honor for 'significant contributions to enriching French cultural heritage' – the Order of Arts and Letters
