The Bishop's Basilica

It dates back to the mid-4th century AD and functioned during the period of the 4th to 6th centuries, when it was likely the episcopal cathedral of the city. It is the largest Early Christian church discovered in Bulgaria and one of the largest on the Balkan Peninsula. The basilica features impressive architecture, with a central nave and two side aisles, an apse, a narthex (vestibule), and an atrium (open courtyard) with colonnades. In the central nave, there was a presbyterium (platform for the bishop and clergy) decorated with marble. The basilica is located in close proximity to the modern Catholic Church of St. Ludwig, within walking distance of the Roman Ancient Forum, the Church of St. Petka, and the Small Basilica.
