State Opera Plovdiv – Clarinet Audition Announcement

State Opera Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is announcing an audition for the position of Tutti Clarinet with obligation to play Bass Clarinet (full-time position).

Audition Details:

 Date: April 22, 2025
 Venue: "Boris Hristov" House of Culture, 15 Gladston Str., Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Contract Start: Immediately or by mutual agreement
Languages: Rehearsals are conducted in Bulgarian and English; English proficiency is required.

Application Process:

1st Round – Video Recording Submission
Applicants must submit the following by March 24, 2025:

• Full name, address, phone number, and email

• Links to video recordings:

o W. A. Mozart: Clarinet Concerto in A major, K.V. 622 – 1st movement (exposition only, unaccompanied)

o Orchestral excerpts: Must be recorded in one continuous take (Mozart can be in a separate track).

• Indicate if you require an accompanist for the live audition.

• Indicate if you need to use the orchestra’s bass clarinet.

Audition Repertoire:

1st Round – Video Submission

Clarinet:

• W. A. Mozart – Clarinet Concerto in A major, K.V. 622 (1st movement, exposition, no piano accompaniment required)

• J. Brahms – Symphony No. 3, 2nd movement, bars 1-22 (1st clarinet)

• F. Mendelssohn – Symphony No. 3, 2nd movement, bars 8-102 (1st clarinet)

• F. Mendelssohn – A Midsummer Night's Dream, Scherzo (2nd clarinet, beginning to letter B)

• N. Rimsky-Korsakov – Scheherazade, 1st movement (2nd clarinet, 4 bars after F to G)

Bass Clarinet:

• R. Strauss – Don Quixote (Reh. 14 to 4 bars before Reh. 19)

2nd Round – Live Audition (Invitation Only)

• Candidates advancing to the live audition will receive a confirmation email with additional orchestral excerpts.

• Piano accompaniment will be provided, but candidates may bring their own pianist.

• A bass clarinet may be provided upon request.
