Details
The idea for the ballet "Giselle" originated from the French writer Théophile Gautier, who proposed to Adolphe Adam to compose the music. By the beginning of 1841, the composer was ready, and the premiere took place on June 28, 1841, at the Paris Opera. The success was so immense that it established "Giselle" as the apotheosis of Romantic ballet forever. After Paris, "Giselle" was performed in London, Vienna, Saint Petersburg, Milan, New York, and around the world...
A peasant girl falls inappropriately in love with a handsome suitor who pretends to swear loyalty to her. The gamekeeper Hans warns her about his insincerity and finds evidence of the suitor's noble lineage, later discovering that he is engaged. Giselle goes mad and dies. One night, Hans visits her grave, expressing his love. The Wilis (young women who died before their wedding) draw him into their dance, causing his death. The count, filled with sorrow, is also doomed to the same fate, but Giselle helps him. With her love, she gives him strength, and her beloved Albert dances until dawn. He is saved from death, but not from the pain of lost love.
