Details
The production by Nina Naydenova takes the audience to ancient Beijing during a magical, undefined time, where Eastern beauty and extravagance meet bloody cruelty, blending reality with symbolism. The beautiful Turandot has declared that she will marry anyone who can answer three of her riddles, but anyone who tries and fails will lose their life. Calàf successfully answers the riddles, but Turandot still refuses to marry him. In his desperation, he offers her a deal: if she can find out his name before dawn the next day, he will sacrifice himself and die at sunrise.
