Veselka Kuneva sets the story of the last days of Jesus and his confrontation with Judas Iscariot in a dark, post-apocalyptic future filled with shaky faith and a collapse of morality, where a disheartened humanity seeks its Messiah once again. Using her characteristic strong visual expressions, she explores the endless cycle of faith and denial. "What I see in this rock opera is not just painfully impactful music. There is a prophecy in it that we, as contemporary creators, must recognize," shares Veselka Kuncheva. The set design by Marieta Golomehova complements the director's concept by recreating an underground city-graveyard that symbolizes the "homelessness" of the world we live in. For the production, she also creates a unique crown, not made of thorns, but of pieces of glass.
The Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, built in the 2nd century, has a capacity of around 2,200 seats and is an active cultural venue for concerts and theatrical events.
