THE DEMONS. THE OBSESSION
Scotland, 11th century. Rulers, knights, courtiers, the enslaved, witches, demons, and visions dominate the stage, enveloped in mysticism and reality, driven by passions and ideas! A plot filled with dramatic twists of fate, human weaknesses, destructive ambitions, heroic deeds, sorrow, fleeting joy, rise, and fall. A historical fact from the life of the Scottish ruler Macbeth, turned into a legend passed down through generations, inspires the two titans, Shakespeare and Verdi! From the distant 11th century to our 21st century, exactly ten centuries have passed. Is it a coincidence that this personal drama has become art and still provokes thought today? What is it that makes us empathize with or reject the drama of the hero Macbeth, stirring us to look within ourselves and at those around us?
These questions form the foundation of the stage concept!
We are all born equal, but then each of us makes our own choices – some take the path of goodness and preach peace and love, while others take the path of power and glory at any cost... We all have motives for our actions, but not always explanations for them! Are destructive actions a result of human will, or is it the obsession of thought by passion, the invisible, the evil?! "To be obsessed..." – is it merely an excuse for our actions and intentions... or is it predestination by higher forces? And if these are destructive thoughts from our own subconscious, do we bear responsibility? Do we accept guilt? Do we atone? How?
There are many questions. They confront anyone who dares to interpret the mystical inevitability of a ruler whose name, Macbeth, has become synonymous with destructive human passion.
The images of the Demons are central to the stage concept – an expression of our confused human ambitions and intentions! Mystical and real. Offspring of the forces of darkness, but also of the deepest recesses of the human soul. They possess! They become the provocateur and driver of the action, ensnaring all – rulers, the enslaved, witches, and warriors – in their own game of fate. The Demons tempt Macbeth and Lady Macbeth with passion, power, and their fateful end...
All these passions play out in the dynamics of a continuously changing vision – a rotating circular sphere that shifts perspectives more than 30 times. It becomes a hellish cauldron, constantly boiling and seething, then a battlefield or cemetery, a forest, a king’s hall, an arena of destructive passions. In all this dynamic, created by the alternation of scenes and images, the Demons find the most suitable environment to express their destructive intensity.
