The production was previously presented on a closed stage, but now it unfolds in its full scope at the Ancient Theatre. A key element of the set design is a 10-meter fallen bull’s horn—a symbol of passion, admiration, love, and death. “Carmen embodies all the clichés associated with Romani women. She is wild and fearless, nonconformist, constantly in conflict with the law, and lives exclusively in the present. Yet her name implies a dark shadow over her. Besides the Latin meaning of 'carmen' (poetry, song, magical formula), the word 'karma' is also hidden within. Originating from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit, it means 'action' or 'effect.' Every physical or mental act has a consequence,” Horner explains. The production is under the baton of Maestro Bojan Suđić, who has been the musical director of the Music Production Department of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) for over a decade and the chief conductor of its two renowned ensembles—the RTS Symphony Orchestra and the RTS Choir.
